Top 10 Basketball Movies

Throughout the months of June through October, we're pretty bored at the Spider Dribble headquarters. Although free agency has been extra fun this offseason and the Summer League has produced a number of intriguing stories, we spend most of our summer wishing we could watch Durantula go off on the Kings for 52, 7 and 6.

Our friend here at Spider Dribble, known to most as Zaza (due to his extremely athletic play on the court, of course), came through with a list of his top ten basketball flicks of all time. Hit the jump below to see how the new round mound of rebound ranks his favorites, from White Men Can't Jump to Hoosiers.

10. Semi-Pro - Will Ferrel and Woody Harrelson tag team the ABA's greatest team, the Flint Tropics, in order to make it to the NBA. This comedy is full of laughs and great one liners you will be saying for the rest of your week. Put some funk in your dunk and take some time to check this one out!

9. Coach Carter - Another true story turned basketball movie gold. An inner city band of trouble making basketball players whole world changes when they meet their coach played by Samuel L. Jackson. A great movie with tons of great life lessons and an ending you wouldn't expect.

8. Like Mike - Lil Bow Wow (and the rest of the world) just wants to be like MJ. Well when MJ's shoes fall into the hands of orphan Calvin Cambridge, that dream becomes a reality. Calvin takes the NBA by storm getting everything he ever wished for and then some. We playing basketball!

7. Air Bud - It's the story of man's best friend turned sharp shooting basketball playing dog in this classic movie. Buddy the dog brings joy to everyone in this basketball classic that's great for kids and the family, but have a tissue ready for the sad parts!

6. Eddie - No not Eddie Murphy, and yes this is a real basketball movie. Whoopie Goldberg stars in this comedy as the annoying Knicks fan turned head coach. Not a well known movie, but I promise it will be a favorite when you give it chance. So head to the nearest secondhand movie store or garage sale, and find this diamond in the rough!

5. White Men Can't Jump - Another oldie but great movie to watch. If you got this on VHS go ahead and pop it in. Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson star in this comedy/drama about a couple of streetball hustlers. Full of laughs and Woody Harrelson dunks make this a great watch if you are 17+ because it is rated R! We goin' sizzler!

4. Hoosiers - A classic movie that every small town basketball player can relate to. Basketball's best true story turned into a movie. Also a great motivation movie for young basketball players, thanks Denny Brown. Teaches good life lessons and dreams can come true with some old fashion hard work and a rick barry free throw shooting style.

3. Love and Basketball - A perfect mix of sports and romance. A true basketball lovers dream come true to find a woman who loves basketball just as much as them. A great pick if the lady friend in your life is making you watch a love movie.

2. He Got Game - Jesus Shuttlesworth aka Ray Allen laid his smooth J all over this movie with his co-star Denzel Washington. Spike Lee could do no wrong in this one with its great story of a convicted felon reconnecting with his top basketball prospect son. Not only a great basketball movie, but a great culture movie, from the life behind prison walls to the city streets we live in.

1. Space Jam - The greatest of all time staring in the greatest basketball movie of all time. Young or old everyone loves this movie. The mixture of the whacky Looney Tunes and MJ vs. the hated Monstars was sure to be an instant classic. Thanks to MJ's secret stuff, we no longer have to worry about alien invasions or Shawn Bradley losing his talent.

Honorable Mentions

Juwanna Mann

Celtic Pride

6th Man

Kazaam and Steel - Neither pertain to basketball, but Shaq's acting was slam dunk!
